Tax Law

If you plan to buy, sell, exchange or donate an asset we can show you how to minimize or defer income, estate, and gift taxes through such transactions as like-kind exchanges.  If you are or intend to become a business owner, we can explain the tax laws to help you choose the correct structure from among options such as sole proprietorship, “C” corporation, “S” corporation, partnership or limited liability company.  Once your business is operating, we will advise you on the tax consequences not only for routine operational matters but also for extraordinary matters such as liquidation, merger, purchase, reorganization and sale.

For both employee and business owner, our retirement and estate planning services show you tax-advantaged strategies of providing income during your later years and allowing for an orderly post mortem transfer of your assets to the beneficiaries that you designate.  When the time comes to administer your estate, we’ll be able to help those beneficiaries reach the most favorable tax result possible.  We also represent clients in tax controversies before both the Internal Revenue Service and the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
