William ‘Will’ Alonzo Lucas, one of the firm’s founding partners was first admitted to the North Carolina bar and began practice in August of 1903. A Wilson County native, William A. Lucas was born on February 11, 1881. He was educated in the county’s public schools, attended Trinity College (later renamed Duke University) and studied law at the University of North Carolina. Lucas was well-known throughout the region as a skillful practitioner and during his career developed a reputation as a zealous advocate in the courtroom. He was a member of the North Carolina State Bar Association and the American Bar Association. His North Carolina Biography, published in 1919, states that Lucas was leader in the community, and that he was affiliated with a number of civil organizations including the Wilson County Club, the Commonwealth Club, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the Junior Order of United American Mechanics. Lucas was a Knights Templar Mason and a Shriner.

In 1944, Lucas joined his practice with Oliver G. Rand to form Lucas & Rand, the firm now know as Rose Rand Wallace Attorneys, P.A.
