Bio
Mr. Cargill was born in South Boston, Virginia and attended public schools in Rutherford County, N.C. Mr. Cargill received his B.S. degree from North Carolina State University in 1983. As an undergraduate, he was named to the Dean’s Lists and was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Mr. Cargill received his J.D. cum laude from Campbell University School of Law in 1987 where he was named to the Dean’s Lists, received academic scholarships and was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. As a member of the Campbell Law Review, he was the author of a published note, “Entrustment under U.C.C.S 2-403 and Its Implications for Article 9”, 9 Campbell L. Rev. 407. Mr. Cargill received a Master of Laws in Taxation (with distinction) from Georgetown University Law Center in 1990.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Cargill has been a member of other Raleigh, N.C., law firms including Hensley, Huggard, Obiol and Bousman, P.L.L.C., Hensley, Bousman, Cargill & Bryant, P.L.L.C., and Hensley, Cargill & Haislip, P.L.L.C. He acquired experience in a variety of transactional areas of law, for example, representing clients in thousands of real estate closings throughout North Carolina. His experience includes the preparation of estate planning documents and representing clients in estate administration matters. Mr. Cargill has practiced extensively in general business and tax law. Early in his career he worked in the legal department of an employee benefits consulting firm, drafting documents for qualified retirement plans and other employee benefit programs for hundreds of employers in the southeastern United States. His practice has now expanded to include contract review and condemnation for municipalities as well as real estate development.
Mr. Cargill has taught as a business law instructor at Meredith College and for the American Institute of Paralegal Studies.
He is married and has two sons.
